In collaboration with Haapsalu Neurological Rehabilitation Centre (HNRC), Kalev confectionery company organised a charity campaign in September and October, during which 21,062 euros was collected to support the treatment of children with mobility impairments. This amountcan be used to help up to 100 children with mobility impairments.
During the charity campaign “Ole kah käpp!” (“Get involved too!”), two cents off every Mesikäpp product sold were donated to HNRC to support the purchase of orthoses, i.e. braces and splints for the children’s treatment. During the campaign period, a total of 1,053,101 Mesikäpp products was sold. The patron of the campaign was hurdler Rasmus Mägi, who achieved a great result at the Rio Olympics.
“In Estonia, there are many children with mobility impairments who need ongoing, costly treatment. It’s great to see that Mesikäpp and Rasmus Mägi have inspired many people to help. Thanks to these good people, we have managed to collect a considerable amount for a noble cause,” said Kaido Kaare, Chairman of the Board of AS Kalev.
According to Priit Eelmäe, the Director of HNRC, the donations collected during the charity campaign will reach the children who need it the most. “There are many children who need various kinds of orthoses for mobility, which are relatively expensive, and which take a long time to make. Quickly and professionally manufactured orthoses enable children to become involved inage-appropriate activities at a considerably more active level”.
Mesikäpp is one of Kalev’s best-known product ranges, and includes 18 products: chocolates, sweets, biscuits, wafers, ice creams and a wafer cake.
Haapsalu Neurological Rehabilitation Centre is a rehabilitation hospital specialised in helping children and adults with neurological problems. The hospital provides rehabilitation services for approximately 3,500 patients every year.
